Windrush Compensation Scheme
We are the Stakeholder Outreach Team of the Home Office. Our aim is to work with different stakeholders to promote awareness of Windrush. Our focus is primarily on any nationalities affected by the Windrush scandal including South Asian, East Asian, African and Caribbean communities.
Just to give you a brief background, in 2018 when the Windrush Scandal came to light, the Windrush Engagement team was set up to work with the community and reach out to the people who were impacted. The people who were impacted are all commonwealth citizens who came to the UK from 1948 to 1973 and any other nationality that came to the UK before 31st December 1988.
This entails working collaboratively with grassroot organisations to have discussions about how the Windrush scandal came about, who it impacted and what action was taken by the Home Office to right the wrongs. The Windrush teams work on a sterile corridor, and this means any information shared with us will not be shared with Immigration and Enforcement.
We have been attending events up and down the country along with being part of other media campaigns. The Windrush Help and Engagement Team can support stakeholders in a number of ways. In past events our team have supported with include:
- Information presentations: explaining about the Windrush Status Scheme and Compensation schemes. Who is eligible for both schemes. What categories can be claimed for under the Compensation scheme.
- Q&A session: This general follows the information presentation where we allow the audience to ask questions about the schemes. Personal cases are encouraged to be addressed separately in a 1:1 with a member of the team.
- Information stands: A tabletop event in which leaflets, applications about the scheme are available. Members of the team are available to answer questions about both the Documentation and Compensation schemes.
- Consultations: Members of the team are available to talk with current/potential claimants privately and answer questions.
- Windrush Facilitator Workshop: Workshop sessions for individuals who are active in assisting Windrush customers in making application to the scheme.

Giving is not just an act; it’s an art that brings light to the lives of others and enriches our own. Whether it’s lending a hand, offering a listening ear, or sharing your resources, every small act of kindness creates a ripple effect. Helping others is not about grand gestures; it’s about showing up when it matters, doing your part to make the world a better place.
In a world that sometimes feels divided, the power of giving reminds us of our shared humanity. Let’s make kindness the norm, not the exception. Each time we help, we make the world just a little brighter. You can make a difference—one act of kindness at a time
